TABIK

The type of restaurant that was missing at Avenida da Liberdade... Fine dining that respects the Portuguese cuisine and all its traditional products without being innovative and creative.

The restaurant itself is very interesting... Right for all types of customer. We can divide the restaurant in three different areas. The back, much more reserved (that everyone can use), in the middle it is the Bar, tall tables and a great selection of gins and finally the entrance, a lot of light and for me best one.

Before talking about the food I have to say that the service was perfect. Friendly people... Always tried and worried to know if everything was alright and if we are likening... And the best part was that the feedback that you give they make sure to pass the message to the kitchen.

Regarding the food... As you can notice from previous post Every time I can I choose the tasting Menu, and this time was no exception. So the menu has 6 dishes (2 starters, fish, meat, pre-dessert and dessert).

Before the starters is served an amouse-bouche... This time was mush potato, braised egg-yolka and ox tail broth... the dish was exceptional).

The starters were:

Mackerel escabeche (for me the best dish of all. Very light, fresh and well made). All the dishes were visually exceptional.

Eggplant puree with braised egg yolk (this dish despite being perfect didn't had the "WOW" factor due to the similarities with the Amouse-bouche).

The fish was my least favorite due to something called "piri-piri" (chili)... The dish was codfish with shallots, baked potatoes and mushroom sauce (as you can see classic combination in a lot of Portuguese dishes)... it was everything great until that moment that I ate the only shallots which had the chili... my mouth went numb!

The meat was the so waited Ox tail, garnish with caramelized shallots and parsnip puree infused with white chocolate. The dish was very well balanced... the flavor combination seems odd but it works perfectly... Specially because the execution was brilliant.

Pre-dessert... cheese foam with caramel and water mint.

Dessert... very simple. Chocolate cake (almost like a mousse... yummy) with red-fruits foam and pennyroyal slush.

Conclusion... I want to go back again and again and try the other dishes.

If you don't know where to go lunch/dinner go to TABIK...
