Favas Contadas 2.0 - Appearances can be deceiving

What to say about a dinner made by pastry chefs... On the 22 and 23 of August, at Conceito Food Store restaurant (driven by the Chef Daniel Estriga) , took place the second dinner of Favas Contadas. This event has as main goal to promote the work of young chefs.

I have to say that it was an outstanding dinner... full of surprises!!!!

In this this dinner most of the dishes resembled a dessert or a sweet... and all of them were followed by this amazing cocktail created by "Ás de Copos" bar.

Needless to say that the expectations were high due the success of the first event.

As I mentioned in the previews post the chefs were:

  • Chef Daniel Estriga
  • Chef Diogo Lopes (pastry Chef)
  • Sara Soares (Pastry Chef)
  • Zé Pedro (Pastry Chef)
To know more about this chef see the last post.
And the cocktail were responsability of:

  • Miguel Tojal (bartender) and owner of "Ás de Copos" bar

But let's talk about the food and the drinks...

So... the dinner start with some bread and candies... Yes! that's right CANDIES (like Ferrero Rocher) ... but don't forget Appearances can be deceiving...

... And the first cocktail was a Cosmic Egg (Ovo Cósmico).

The starters:

Sundae Caprese... inspired in the Caprese Salad. This starter showed a lot of creativity and imagination and a lot of technique! Transforming a well known dish in something much more appealing and attractive.

The cocktail was very appropriated... very fresh, creative and tasty.

Yogurt time (dish based on a Spanish soup - garlic, ham and fig)... and the drink was a fig cocktail. As you can see this dish looks like a school lunch.

The main Courses:

"Os Santos Populares" a dish inspired on a old Lisbon celebration... sardine on bread and salad.

With an amazing dish... an amazing drink... Estrella Damm Inedit beer

"O Magnum e o Corneto"... two most popular ice-creams in Portugal. This time the chefs transformed the idea of an ice-cream in to a meat dish. Calf cheek (slowly cooked).

The cocktail for this dish was the most inventive of all. The bartender did it on the table. First he burn some rosemary under the glass and close it... we waited like a minute and then we put the drink in the glass... and BUM MAGIC

Between the fish and the meat... they served us a little drink and a "burger"... Yes a burger but a macaron burger (made with mushrooms and truffles oil) with chicken, caramelizes onions and cheese.

The dessert:

Creme Brulee, strawberries, marshmallows, lemon sorbet and crumble... the dessert was served in a little pan... (the opposite way to serve it... really cool)

With this amazing dessert... the strongest cocktail of the night... whisky based cocktail... very strong... But DELICIOUS

To finish the dinner we had a coffee and a mini rice pudding.

At the end we even received a little gift...
